Beer for Good
Real Talk
Our business has an impact on the environment. As such, we approach all operational aspects with a commitment to better business practices and a reduction in those environmental impacts.
While you can count on us for the freshest beer around, you can also feel good about our commitment to making a positive impact in the world—protecting the planet and using beer as a force for good.
Sourcing Matters
GRAIN
We are proud to source grain from Admiral Maltings, California’s only CCOP-certified malting operation that supports no-till and regenerative farming practices.
Hops
We participate in hop breeding programs to trial new varietals with better resilience and yields, and work directly with growers with attention to sustainability. We also seek out hops which are inherently grown with more sustainable practices, like New Zealand hops.
ADJUNCTS
Our beer menu is dictated by what’s in season, and we believe that ingredients matter. Sourcing the highest quality, organic ingredients as locally and sustainably as possible has been a part of our ethos from the beginning.
MERCHANDISE
We have a code of conduct which guides our selection of products and services from other companies. This ensures that we share the same core values such as: sustainability; charitable giving; ethical operations; and product durability for waste reduction.
Waste Reduction
GRAIN
Spent grain is one of the largest waste products from brewing. Our spent grain becomes cattle feed at local KD Farms.
ORGANIC WASTE
We partner with EDCO and Republic Services in Carlsbad to repurpose organic waste.
WATER
We reduce water usage by monitoring water levels for efficiency and by recapturing water for reuse. We also support nonprofits working to reduce water pollution and we advocate as a member of Brewers for Clean Water.
MATERIALS
Grain bags and plastic are some of the biggest waste issues in our industry (and are not recyclable in San Diego!). We take steps such as reusing our grain bags in place of plastic trash bags, and using giant rubber bands instead of plastic wrap.
EVENTS
We aim to hold only zero-waste events; we are on track by sourcing recyclable and compostable materials for all of our events, and by working with vendors who are committed to doing so as well.
Certifications for the Planet
CLIMATE NEUTRAL
We are certified Climate Neutral, offsetting our carbon footprint via verified carbon credits which fund projects that reduce emissions around the world.
PLASTIC NEGATIVE
We reduce our plastic use wherever possible and offset where we can’t: We are certified Net Zero Plastic Waste through Plastic Credit Exchange and offset 200% of our usage.
1% FOR THE PLANET
We have been a member of the 1% for the Planet network since opening our doors in January 2016. That means we are committed to donating 1% of all sales to environmental organizations working to protect our planet.
We Give Back, Too
To date, we have donated over $450,000 to non-profit partners.
