With mountains to climb, rivers to float, trails to hike, lakes to swim, and campgrounds to pitch our tents, our national forests are the ultimate playground for many of us at Pure. We love and treasure these lands, our lands…yet these lands need our help.
Every year, more and more of our national forests are affected by natural disturbances that cause deforestation. Raging wildfires have burned over 6.5 million acres of North American land this year alone. In addition to wildfires, insects and disease are causing massive forest losses as well.
Planting trees helps restore forest cover to these lands, ensuring that our forests can continue to provide wildlife habitat, supply fresh water for millions, and enhance resiliency to future events.
Together with your support, we are planting 10,000 trees this year. This is in addition to the 10,000 trees we planted last year, and our ten-year goal as a company to plant over 150,000 trees. This is made possible through our partnership with the National Forest Foundation (NFF).
NATIONAL FOREST FOUNDATION
MISSION
Chartered by Congress, the National Forest Foundation was created with a simple mission: bring people together to restore and enhance our national forests and grasslands.
The NFF engages Americans in community-based and national programs that promote the health and public enjoyment of the 193-million-acre National Forest System, and administers private gifts of funds and land for the benefit of the national forests.
CORE VALUES
Our national forests and grasslands are at the core of America’s natural riches, and yet, today these treasures are threatened by unprecedented challenges. Working with the U.S. Forest Service and partners, our goal is to leverage our best thinking, conservation capacity and community action to measurably improve the health of our national forests and grasslands.
Core values guide their work. In all of their strategies, they strive to:
- Unite the power of diverse interests and communities in collaborative stewardship
- Restore ecosystems to their natural resiliency and functions through on-the-ground conservation
- Engage Americans, young and old, in recognizing the gifts of our national forests and grasslands and in caring for them
- Sustain the commitment and ability of communities to serve as stewards by building the capacity of collaborative organizations
- Add value where action would not otherwise be taken.
50 MILLION FOR OUR FORESTS
The NFF has created a campaign to plant 50 million trees across our national forests. Together with their supporters, they are working to amplify their impact—planting for wildlife recovery, wildlife habitat enhancement, watershed health, insect and disease restoration, and more—all while increasing our forests’ resilience to climate change and improving these public lands for all.
IMPACT
- Trees Planted in 2020: 5.6 million trees planted, including more than 25 tree species and accounting for more than 18,000 acres reforested
- Funds Invested in 2020: $10.1 million NFF funds invested with the U.S. Forest Service and other partners to complete critical projects
- Forest Collaborative Work: 16 NFF-facilitated collaboratives, with nearly 1,800 participants in 18 peer learning sessions
- On-the-ground Results: 2,843 miles of trail work, accounting for more than 5,000 acres of wildlife habitat restored and employing or engaging nearly 6,500 youth
