Giving back
1% For the Planet
What is 1% For the Planet?
What this means from a high level is that Pure Project donates 1% of all sales (not just profits) to environmental non-profit organizations, whether we are profitable or not.
The Cost Of Doing Business
What follows is an open letter that we have had hanging on the wall of our tap room since we first opened in January 2016 that outlines how we strive to run our business and why.
We make beer.
It’s really not that complicated.
What is complicated however, is the way in which we as humans and Pure Project as a company must live and operate to ensure the existence of our planet in its natural beauty and effectiveness for generations to come.
As a company, we make numerous decisions every day that all beg the question this… or that? Do we go high end or cheap? Do we go with paper or plastic? Do we buy organic or conventional? Is it something we can get local or do we need to source from somewhere else? Do we keep all the profits or give back?
What we are trying to do is stop and ask another question, one that the leaders in corporate responsibility have been asking for some time now. “Is this the best way to do business for all parties involved, or simply the easiest & cheapest?”
It’s a balancing act, and not one we claim to have mastered, rather we are still learning every day. The balance is between actually making money and a quality product so you can create income & stay in business while still looking out for all the other factors involved: the environment, giving back, employee happiness & retention, having fun, staying true to yourself, rising healthcare…etc…etc.
By becoming a member of 1% For The Planet we were able to answer one of those questions. “How can we as a company help offset the impact we are having on the environment by consuming resources and producing beer?” We do not view this as a donation, rather simply just the cost of doing business.
We chose to answer that question by donating 1% of our sales to environmental initiatives both here in our local community/country and globally. There are already dedicated people and teams on the ground throughout the world that have the knowledge, experience and resources to help make a major difference in our community.
Is 1% enough?
Only time will tell, but it’s a start and we look forward to facing that future with an openness to change, learn and adapt.
Can 1% really change the world? Well, we know this; we can try… and we need your help.
So drink up! You’re saving the planet after all.
